Food and water precautions are esseantial preventative measures to avoid traveller’s diarrhea and other food and water borne diseases while travelling to developing countries.The most common travel related illnesses are spread through contaminated food and water. It is important to follow these precautions to prevent illness while you are travelling.

How can I prevent food and water borne diseases?

  • Consider receiving available vaccines to prevent food and water borne illnesses (i.e. Hepatitis A, typhoid, Dukoral)
  • Wash hands or use hand sanitizer before eating and drinking
  • Avoid tap water, ice, raw fruits and vegetables, food from street vendors and unpasteurized dairy products
  • Eat food that is well cooked and hot

Prevention is key to a healthy and enjoyable trip. Boil it, cook it, eat it, or forget it!
